February 23 - 29, 2020: John 12:36-50

Refresh: Pray for a clearer vision of who Jesus is.

Read: John 12:36-50

Reflect: George Welles described an incident in the battle of the Java Sea. “ A destroyer had been torpedoed, and 116 men were struggling for their lives in the oil burdened waters, swimming about and clinging to rafts.Their cries for help were answered by the return cries from three cruisers.” It wasn’t until someone thought to throw an illuminated life preserver that they were actually able to be located by a British destroyer and rescued. The light made the difference between life and death. “What a vivid picture of the grace and mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ! - Sunday School Times

My favorite verse of this week’s reading is the last one, verse 50. “I’m here to offer you eternal life. That’s why I’m sharing with you what the Father has told me to tell you.” In this chapter Jesus deals with the rejection of heaven’s gift and closes the chapter making it plain that He and the Father are of one purpose. That one purpose is to take you and I home to live forever in their love!

Recalibrate: How does your acceptance of heaven's gift change your worldview?

Respond: Thank God for desiring eternity with you.
